Mentoring is helping new umpires improve their skills
New umpires are assigned a mentor who usually lives locally and has a lot of acquired skill and knowledge.
The umpire and mentor should briefly confer online after each games and especially if the new umpire has a questions about a play, a rule or situation involving coaches or parents. The mentor will offer advice and help to steer the rookie official through the situation.
